The town of Gerace

Gerace is a small medieval town in the hinterland of the Locride area in the province of Reggio Calabria. Gerace is renowned for its perfectly preserved byzantine town, its countless churces and the breathtaking view of the Locride sea.

20 minutes by car from the sea, it is located on a plateau. In September, Gerace evenings can be chilly and the average temperature ranges from 17 and 23 decrees Celsius.

The ceremony and the reception are at a 10-minute walk distance from each other.

WHAT KIND OF SHOES TO WEAR?

Gerace is slightly downhill, with cobblestones, that make it difficult to walk on stiletto heels. The available parking is not in the immediate vicinity of the church or the reception venue. Therefore, a short walk is inevitable.

Book soon. September is low season, but we recommend booking as soon as possible to secure the best hotel. Gerace doesn't have major hotels. You might want to consider options in nearby towns: Locri, Roccella Jonica and Marina di Gioiosa. Please reach out if you need help or advice.

Stay the whole weekend. We know you're super busy, but we'd love for you to be there the whole weekend. If you can, book a place for Friday through Sunday.

TRANSPORTATION

GETTING TO GERACE

We are ever so grateful for your presence and we are well aware of the logistical difficulties that this involves. You will find many locals do not speak English. If at any point in time, you encounter any difficulty, please give us a call and we will do our best to help.

If you are traveling by plane, the closest airports are Lamezia Terme and Reggio Calabria.

From the airport of Lamezia Terme, we recommend renting a car or taking a bus. From Lamezia Terme airport, by car, it takes 1h45min to reach Gerace.

If you are reaching Calabria by train, you should stop at Rosarno station (on the Tyrrenean sea).

There is no train station in Gerace. The nearest train station is Locri.

Renting a car at the airport is the best option and will guarantee greater flexibility. When traveling by car, please check the status of ongoing works on the tunnel of Limina.

The availability of taxis in Calabria is limited.

We identified a travel agency that offers a number of transportation services, including shared transfer from the airport to Locri, Roccella Jonica and Marina di Gioiosa or private transfer towards any destination. Advance booking is required. If you need it, please let us know and we will put you in contact.

On the day of the wedding, we will provide transportation between Gerace and the towns of Locri, marina di Gioiosa and Roccella Jonica. If you are planning to take advantage of it, please let us know in advance so that we can plan accordingly.
